A bear’ s life

From The Publisher's Desk of A Bear's Life Magazine

We are happy and thrilled to bring you a magazine that celebrates the Bear Community. Like any cross-section of humanity we come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

It is that diversity that makes us special. To find a place in this world, where you feel you truly belong is dear. Being a part of the gay community was the first step in getting some kind of pride and kinship among gay men.

About the early 1990's there was talk about groups of men similar to us in looks and interests, most of them big, hairy, friendly and affectionate guys, that were forming clubs, a sub-culture of the gay community. They called themselves "Bears." When you walked into a bear bar, it was like stepping through a magic door that transported you to a place where you felt normal, wanted, desired, and liked. That is an AMAZING ability for anyone to possess.

That is what it all comes down to, making friends, feeling good about yourself through the unity of the community, support shared among the Bears, Cubs, Otters, Wolves, Chasers, Admirers and other wildlife that now comprises the Brotherhood of Bears.

From the bear runs, parties and charity fund-raisers all over the world, the bears have become a familiar and integral part of society. We hope that our magazine is not only read by our fellow bears, but from all those admirers, whether gay, straight, or bi-sexual, who look to us as an important part of the community at large.

We encourage our readers to take an active role in helping us grow by letting us know what you would like to see in upcoming issues. We are always open to suggestions and expanding our staff with creative people.

I am very proud to be a part of this community of men and bring to you a shared experience of the life we are blessed to enjoy and the people who make it so... you.
